Jennifer Wallace – Ⅱ

Branch, Drop

Light rain today.

On the maple, drops refuse to fall.

Or is it that the branch won’t let go?

All that’s needed is to open

the undiscovered room

where the drop — if it fell —

would arrive. And another room —

where the drop will not fall. And another —

before the drop appeared on Earth,

the branch simply being a branch.

From Within

From within the egg

From within the egg of the world

From within the egg of the world I pierce the shell,

then I see the face of necessity . . . .

Palm pressed

from within the chalky shell

from within:

the faintest field of weakness,

the inevitable peck, peck, peck

and then the light, the bewildering light.
