A Bucket of Flowers
It is time to go home I say I want to go home
I come from the edge of the world I say I want to go home
I keep saying I want to go home but again I head for the edge of the world
I come from the peak I say I want to go home Nobody hears me
I say I want to go home to the warm home I climb the sky
I come from a tree I say I want to go home
I keep saying I want to go home to the warm heart but I leave again
I lie down and I am the tree bark
I am the field I hold the sky
I say I want to go home I am the spring’s first strong wind
and I am the gentle wind I sway the curtains
I become the wind wanting to go home I am restored I say I want to go home
I become the whine of the wind wanting to go home I have finally come home
What have come home: the days wearing a pink hat, the footprints
all the way to the workplace and a random book of maps
The Theory of Happiness (it wants to be happy) also has come home
A meal ticket by the station, the shy high-noon of the cheapest one is good
for me, has come home
Lonely umbrella walking, swirl swirl, has come home
I place a pillow between the duvet and the mattress to relax
the season’s body
Far away – where is my true home? –
Seasons return with fanfare and I unfold the garden where
we played the game of ‘A Bucket of Flowers’
opening them sheet by sheet
Trying to find where home is; A Bucket of Flowers
I will snatch that child; Which child? A Bucket of Flowers
I will snatch this child; Which child? A Bucket of Flowers
As if a death is hope
I unfold the season once for all
*Hana ichi monme (A Bucket of Flowers) is a Japanese children’s play song for a game very much like Red Rover. The song originally referred to the price poor families received when selling their daughters
*monme = a unit of weight (mom)
