Nonetheless 
 

 

 

I have this recollection of the beginning of time

not as lucid and freeing as I would like

but a recollection nonetheless.

 

I have this premonition about the end of time

more vivid and impinging than I would desire

but a premonition nonetheless.

 

Yesterday between the recollection and the premonition

tomorrow over and underneath them both

I pretended and will pretend to be both invulnerable and witty.

 

And, I shudder, I will fall flat on my face

in the worst of jokes absurd and timeless

but with an abundance of laughter nonetheless.
