Tanaka Ikuko-II
The Song of Rowanberry
It’s the time pampas grass yearns in silver
I was born from my mother and father
And during the time pampas grass shines in silver
my mother and father were born from me
At the foot of a high mountain
in the field of pampas grass spread as far as anyone could see
Born, they were, deep in the waving bush
When rowanberries turn red
I set out to meet them
It is a call to tell me
to come before the snow
I wouldn’t go near the height
I wouldn’t edge the cliff
I would pass through the valley of the shadow
and climb so very carefully step by step
Above in the sky over the field of pampas grass
Black clouds and white clouds entangle
Labor is induced
This is where my mother and father
are born once again and I
wade and search for them and I
go close to them so I feel their breath and rest my hands
on their backs and they in repose
gasp and say – We will be off –
There are shiny red rowanberries
I wave and say – You will be off –
I retrace
the humanity of separations and promises
and the path I just came by
in peace
How many times has it been -
I receive the call from rowanberry?
