Mizuta Noriko-III
Borderline
— in memoriam of Nasu Koichi
The border is slipping
A thin certain single line
Running
Out from this space while trailing off
It’s destination perhaps
Far away place
Where it will intersect
No longer
Distinct volition toward there
But
Now it just faintly slips
Gradually
Trailing off
On this side
Wide territory
Color-painted
Occupied space
But
Hard, single line’s
Imprints trailing away
Gradually
Into shadows
This place
From where
Did this line begin?
Invisible origins
In this coloration
Unseen place
Or rather a fissure
Or rather a source
Or rather a betrayal
Expanding across the far side
Gradually taking on a tint
Space
As yet uninhabited
As yet in the unconscious
An origin
Outside the line
Did you think it was a vacuum?
Did you think it was an abyss?
Quivering like foam
Some kind of domain
Tinted beige
From that space
Abruptly, that single line
Goes running off
Some kind of domain
Bound to collapse
Can’t you hear that sound?
Like a dull bass
Soon they come to you
Vibrations from the taught bowstrings
Then fade away
No
Several sounds intersecting
Not reverberating through each other
Not rebounding off each other
Subtly deviated
The distant echo of
Heterogeneous chords
Focusing my eyes
I can see several territories
Space colonized by some unknown
But
The line never ceases to run
In the wake of this line cleaving consciousness
A vast
Colorlessness spreads before the eye
Delimiting multiple
Sites of frothing origins
On this side
Opaque territories
Begin overlapping
Can this line be identified?
It is no breakwater
Can you stand atop?
This still running line
Infinitely magnifies the boundary
But
There is no confusion
Never adjacent to achromatic territory
It subtly deviates away
Faint hue
Definite things
Demarcated clearly
This side is shadow
No reason to scream
Space
Painted over in gray
Becomes the shadow of some thing
Or rather has been stamped with nothingness
Shadow space
Up until now
Has been occupied territory
Interior place
All evenly plastered
Domain
Sound of
The line that goes on running
The line that keeps the border visible
Is it comfortable?
Extending space
Extending shadow
