Judy Halebsky
Judy Halebsky‘s book Sky=Empty won the 2009 New Issues Poetry Prize. She is working on a new collection of poems based on Andrew Nelson’s Japanese-English Character Dictionary (Tuttle, 1962). Using this source text, she follows the constellations of meanings in kanji and layers them with reinterpretations and happy accidents to find poems. A resident of Tokyo for three years, she studies the contemporary practice of noh theatre at Hosei University on a MEXT fellowship.
