Arrival
The mothers and children
squeezed on the deck. Before we
could even tell which
was ours, all the fathers
on shore began to wave
and shout and toss their Army
caps like glad planets
in the December
sky as the tugboat
groaned us into Yokohama.
父さんたちの帰還
どの母さんも子供たちも、押しあいへしあい身を乗り出した
父さんたちが帰ってくる。
でも、父さんはどこ? 私たちの父さんが、なかなかはっきりわからない
するといきなり父さんたち、陸に向かって手をふりはじめ、大声で叫び、軍帽空に放うり上げた。
十二月の空高く、よろこびあふれクルクルまわる惑星みたいに見えたなぁ、
それから、うなりながらタグボートが私たちの待つ横浜港へと入って来たの。
